Autogrow started in a small New Zealand workshop with a simple goal: help growers get better, more consistent crops with less waste and worry. Today we blend that hands‑on grower experience with modern sensors, smart dosing and easy cloud tools so teams of any size can focus on growing — not firefighting. From a single propagation room to multi‑zone commercial farms, Autogrow’s solutions are practical, reliable and built around real growers’ needs.
Founding
Jeff Broad founded Autogrow in 1994 in Auckland New Zealand. He began the company while serving as a senior lecturer at Manukau Institute of Technology in Auckland. Under his leadership Autogrow grew into an international supplier of climate, irrigation and fertigation controllers used in greenhouses, vertical farms and other controlled environments, before he sadly passed away from cancer in 2012.
Ownership changes
After a new CEO invested and grew the team from 2013, a sister company was spun off from Autogrow called WayBeyond that focused on Yield Prediction. In 2021 Autogrow was purchased by a long time competitor in the space, Bluelab - also located in New Zealand. Finally in 2024 the commercial part of the business serving small to medium enterprise was purchased by a our long time Malaysian distributor, Excel Seeds.
Today
Today the core team remains in New Zealand with integral staff members in USA and Malaysia helping to support our customers and find new ones all around the planet.
